Fan trained Cherry trees are used against a wall; you will need not less than 180 x 180cm’s for a fan tree. Please note we do not supply ready trained trees; this Summer Sun cherry is a young tree suitable for training yourself, in situ. Such trees usually settle to cropping within 2 or 3 seasons. Dessert Cherries will usually require a sunny south or west facing aspect; the cooking variety ‘Morello’ can be used to utilize a less promising North or Easy facing aspect.
Summer Sun is a relatively recent, English raised Cherry which has qualities that make it the perfect variety for garden growing. It is reliable, easy to maintain and control, self fertile, and bears large lustrous deep red-black fruits with a fine flavour. Summer Sun ripens in late July, a little after the maincrop varieties so is a good variety also for extending the season. Does well as bush, fan, column or a dwarf tree in a container. One of the most important and popular varieties.
